Thank you . This winter storm is no joke. The first storm came through the week of Dec 13 and dumped 27 inches of snow. Everything was shut down that week. Some families are still snowed in from that storm. Then storm Elliott hit us hard on the 20th with more snow and high winds and dropping temperatures. We will provide wood to several Bear families as well as propane.

Wopila Tanka my friend. We are working hard to move the two houses we purchased We secured the land and are raising money to move them. We have big plans for them and are anxious to start new programs for the youth. Covid took away 2 years but we will get them back. Our job readiness and life skills program is running smooth and constantly adding more youth. We are giving away coats, gloves, hood sweaters, shoes, hygiene products and snacks on a daily basis. Nous avions envisagé d'aider une école sur la Réserve de Pine Ridge, de lier des liens avec les Responsables et par ce biais d'aider des élèves en difficulté. Avec le contact de notre Amie et Adhérente Sabine, proche de Rosalie Janis, Responsable des Ressources Humaines de la "Wounded Knee Discrict School", nous concrétisons notre démarche par un don de $ 600 via Paypal, pour permettre l'achat de vêtements. Les besoins sont importants, nous avons pour exemple, des enfants de 5 à 13 ans qui viennent à l'école l’hiver avec des chaussures trouées, sans chaussette, sans linge de corps ou sans veste.

Dans ses remerciements, Tiny DeCory nous donne des informations sur leur fonctionnement, ainsi que des nouvelles malheureusement toujours difficile à lire :
"Wopila mon ami. Comme toujours, l'argent va aux jeunes. Lorsque nous avons procédé à une auto-évaluation du Programme "Bear Job Readiness", nous nous sommes demandé si nous leur enseignions vraiment les compétences nécessaires pour obtenir un emploi et les compétences nécessaires pour le conserver. Notre réponse a été oui, nous leur donnons les compétences, nous les vérifions, nous rendons visite à leur employeur et nous sommes arrivés à la conclusion que nous devions également mettre l'accent sur les stratégies de survie. Les conditions de vie ici ne nous permettent pas de changer la dynamique familiale. Les jeunes ont un emploi mais vivent toujours dans une maison avec 20 autres personnes. Sur une bonne note... Nous incorporons donc plus de compétences de vie. Nous sommes très positifs dans cette démarche.
En revanche, nous avons eu 4 suicides au cours des 8 derniers jours. 3 jeunes et un adulte."

Wopila my friend. The money as always goes to the youth. When we did a self assessment of the job readiness program we asked are we really teaching them the skills to get a job, and skills need to keep the job. Our answer was yes we give them the skills, check on them , visit with their employer and came to the conclusion that we need to stress more survival strategies as well. With the living conditions here we can’t change the family dynamics. The youth have a job but still living in a house with 20 other people. On the good note …So we are incorporating more life skills. We are very positive in doing this. On the down side we had 4 suicides within the past 8 days. 3 youth and one adult.

Non seulement ce Programme leur offre une formation professionnelle rémunérée, mais c'est aussi l'occasion pour eux de découvrir une nouvelle région du Pays et d'apprendre à connaître d'autres personnes et d'autres cultures. Ces Jeunes participants sont en mesure de s'adapter à de nombreuses activités et environnements qui ne seraient pas possibles autrement. Une mi-Mai dédiée à la belle chevauchée, la "CRAZY HORSE RIDE 2022" - 24e ÉDITION, c'est toujours une joie d'apprendre que cette Ride en l'honneur du Grand Chef CRAZY HORSE "Tašúnke Witkó" puisse avoir lieu chaque année, début Juin, pour immerger la Jeunesse Laḱota dans leur Tradition. Avec l'important apport financier de l'un de nos fidèles Donateurs, nous envoyons la somme de $ 1.300 et apportons notre soutien à ce "Programme Culturel" pour aider les Jeunes en difficulté, qui seraient exclus en raison du manque de chevaux ou de vêtements appropriés, et de pouvoir ainsi y participer.

I do want to take this opportunity to tell you how much it means to the Lakota People and ONE Spirit to have your support all these many years. We have great hopes that in the next five years we will see a major transition of the Lakota people to self-sufficiency. This will happen because of your support and other support of the mini people like you.

Mais nous apprenons dans les remerciements de Tiny DeCory une tragédie de plus avec le suicide d'une jeune femme de 17 ans par pendaison. Nous nous associons respectueusement à leur deuil.

Bless you my friend. With summer coming we are trying to hire more youth. Through the job readiness program we are able to keep a closer watch on those who are at risk .We had another suicide a few days ago. She was 17, and she hung her self. She was a senior in high school and would have graduated in 2 weeks.
We have been busy with our Prom project , Say yes to the Dress and WHOOT WHOOT to the Suit!!! We have tuxedos of various colors and beautiful dresses plus accessories for the youth. We have serviced over 300 youth from all the reservation schools and surrounding areas. Now we assist the 8th grade students with attire for their graduation and dinners. We wouldn’t be able to do these things without ya’ll help. Take care and tell everyone Wopila Tanka. We love you.

Suite aux informations transmises par One Spirit dans le Bulletin de Janvier dernier et leur Diaporama Construire un Avenir Durable, nous aidons pour la 1ère fois au nouveau "Programme d'Aide à l'Emploi" One Spirit, qui, pour rappel, associe des employeurs saisonniers du Comté de Cook, Minnesota, entre autre, à des Jeunes de la Réserve de Pine Ridge, leur offrant une formation professionnelle rémunérée, des cours et du mentorat. Nous envoyons $ 600 en soutien à la logistique, transport, recherche de logement, vêtements, articles de 1ère nécessité pour une dizaine de Jeunes Laḱota prêts à vivre cette expérience enrichissante et prometteuse.

Thank you for your donation of $455.00 for our Food Program and $600.00 for our Employment Program. We appreciate your dedication to these programs and for supporting the needs of Oglala Lakota families on the Pine Ridge Reservation. We have indeed been, thanks to your help, busy on the Reservation this year. We are readying a building recently acquired to become a new food pantry. Also, a building we used as a warehouse is currently being turned into our new Okini Market. The Allen Youth Center is getting a new gravel parking area as well as a well lit skatepark. Our new laundry at the Youth Center is also now open. And our Employment Program will be supplying seasonal workers from the Reservation to the resort areas of Grand Marais, MN and Hampton Beach, NH.

Your gift helps One Spirit continue our effort to help the Lakota help themselves. We will apply $455 to your sponsored families and $545.00 to our current projects--a playpark at the AYC and our expanding Employment Program.
COVID continues to challenge Pine Ridge. Despite this issue, One Spirit has been able to press forward. We opened the Allen Laundromat, adjacent to the Youth Center--the first in this area! We are making plans to expand the Allen Youth Center, adding a well lit basketball court and skate park. We have grown our Employment Program, acquired land for the Kyle Agricultural Education Center, signed on 120 sponsors, gained State certification for our Buffalo House, and fed over 2,000 households each month.
