Nous investissons  $ 3.755  sur le Programme Alimentaire, soit  $ 1.755  pour les 27 paniers alimentaires des habitants sponsorisés, et  $ 2.000  permettant à plus de 160 familles Lakȟóta de bénéficier d'une dinde en cette période de "Thanksgiving".

Suite à l'appel ci-dessous reçu de nos amis de One Spirit, la mobilisation de nos Adhérents permet l'envoi de  $ 1.500  permettant à 25 familles de bénéficier d'un panier alimentaire.

Lakota Winter Brings Deep Spring Snow

The Lakota are at this time weathering early spring snow in big time amounts. The late back-to-back snowstorms have left 16 inches of snow with 4-5 foot drifting. It’s beautiful scenery at a glance however some of the people have really struggled to keep it together throughout the harsh final winter days. I have a number of people calling in to see if we can get them on the food program.

The remaining extra items we stored in the freezer have become emergency rescue items. When we get a call we return to the garage/ warehouse and get a box ready and we are on our way to go assist those who make the call. This has been at least 10 people per month some are not on the list, but have heard that One Spirit helps those in need.   We keep the extra food as long as we can, so it never goes to waste, the oranges actually get really sweet too and the kids love them.

This is a special part of the year, it’s a time of renewal and a sacred time when the life all around is born again after a harsh South Dakota winter, it is also a time when everybody is stressed out from trying to survive the winter. Things like keeping their families fed and warm in a poor community can be really stressful and to see the One spirit food box coming to the door puts a smile on our tribal members faces, specially those kids, with their small hands so cute. The kids first thing is Oranges they grab in the boxes for those, I wish at the end of it all we had extra oranges. When they age a little they get even better.

Your sponsorship now is greatly needed and most important as the schools have been closed because of the snow days and that is sometimes the only place to eat.  When the kids are home the groceries get wiped out faster. We are just about making it through this old man winter and soon the sun will shine, as I am writing it is trying to come out after 4 days of Blizzard 2 in Lakota Country.
